Horizon Science Academy Middle School Fact Sheet:

  • Our school was opened in September of 2007, sponsored by Buckeye Community Hope Foundation.
  • We enrolled 500 students for the 2017-18 school year.
  • Our school offers grades 6th through 8th.
  • The maximum class size is 25 students.
  • The student/teacher ratio is 11/1.
  • Our school year runs for a total of 185 days.
  • The school day is a total 8 hours with 7 full hours of instructional time.
  • All classroom teachers and professional support staff are appropriately certified in Ohio.
  • Our schools are managed by a board of trustees.

Horizon Science Academy Columbus Middle School is a public charter school that provides its students with an innovative world class education, rich in math, science, and technology.  It’s focused on preparing students to become bold inquirers, problem solvers, and ethical leaders while also getting them skill-ready for post-secondary education, ready and able to meet the challenges of a competitive global workforce.

Walking through the doors of our school, you will feel a palpable sense of something unique and strong.   There are students’ faces of all nationalities, races, economic backgrounds, and scholastic levels, and the combination exudes an unspoken confidence.  Hallways buzz with excitement and the moment you are introduced to the students and faculty, it becomes clear that this is a school that can change lives.

We have a culture built on a common set of values, and work for student, teacher, and parent accountability, as well as have high expectations for our students, all of which results in high levels of student achievement.  Our administrators, teachers, and guardians have high expectations of our students, and students have high expectations of their teachers.

There is a sense of teamwork involving everyone from parents to administrators, businesses to bus drivers.  Everyone is working toward a single goal: student achievement. Our teachers have a hunger for teaching, and in turn help students develop a hunger for learning. Uncertain futures brim with unlimited opportunity in our school.  Our students shine when talking about their school, their success, and their future.

Horizon Science Academy Columbus Middle School is managed by Concept Schools. Concept Schools is a not-for-profit charter management organization that manages high quality charters in the Midwest. All Concept managed schools implement the school design created by Concept in 1999. Horizon Science Academy Columbus Middle School has a Board of Directors that is independent of Concept Schools. The Board of Directors of Horizon Science Academy Columbus Middle School is the charter holder and has the ultimate responsibility and accountability to our sponsor/authorizer. The Board governs and oversees all operations of Horizon Science Academy Columbus Middle School. The Board of Directors of Horizon Science Academy Columbus Middle School is comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, who are committed to improve high quality public education choices in our community.
